It’s a new year, and with that, many people resolve to do something better than they did the year before. Maybe we decide to handle stress better, but then suddenly experience a great deal more than we bargained for, which causes old coping habits to creep back into our lives. Soon, we find ourselves off track and right back where we didn’t want to be.
We have all been derailed with the circumstances of life, and many are there right now. When our life doesn’t seem to fit into the picture-perfect mold that we have cast for ourselves, we hear a voice in our head listing everything we have done wrong. That list of faults is then accompanied by guilt, remorse, shame and withdrawal.
Many times, we mistake that voice as our Conscience, our Guide, the Holy Spirit of God living in our hearts, but my friends, that is not true. God gave us His Holy Spirit to guide us, yes, but not to convict us of all we are doing wrong. He is there to guide us into truth and to convince us of our righteousness and our Right Standing with God DESPITE anything and everything we have ever done wrong.
We all fall. Some falls cause a scrape or a bruise that takes some time to heal. But sometimes when we experience a fall or a circumstance that we just can’t understand or comprehend, we are overwhelmed with brokenness that doesn’t seem like it could ever heal.
God understands, and He is not there to consume you with further guilt and misery, He is there to help you up, to give you HOPE, and to give you the strength to endure all that you have in your life to bear.
Lamentations 3:22 says, “It is because of the Lord’s mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions never fail.” He is there to encourage you and to help you recognize His hand in your life, despite the storms that may be surrounding you.
No matter what you have going on in your life right now, take a moment to remember times in your life that were good, when through God’s mercies, you, your family or your friends pulled through. Bring in some reinforcements as well, and ask those around you to tell you stories of times when God showed His faithfulness in their life. God’s faithfulness in the past is what paves the way to our HOPE in the future, knowing that God will never leave us or forsake us, especially in our time of need.
Prayer: Dear Lord, You know the burdens we carry, and it is so easy to add despair, guilt and hopelessness to our load. Please help us know that the negative and destructive thoughts we have are not from You. Please cover us with Your mercy and grace and remind us that because of Your Son, and His sacrifice for us, we are children of God. Help us to remember that you are with us always, guiding us into the light of Your truth. Thank You for being our HOPE. In Jesus name we pray, Amen.
