How to Embrace a Circumstance HopeDeclaring the end from the beginning and from ancient times, things not yet done, saying, “My counsel shall stand, and I will accomplish all my purpose”. (Isaiah 46:10)

Recently, I visited with a parent who had just received news that the cancer their child is enduring is terminal and that no additional medical treatment would effect a cure. Understandably the mother was in shock as she tried to reconcile what was happening with her deep Christian faith.

Often times we struggle with the hope for a miracle, and the cold hard facts of a prognosis. It is important that we don’t ask “Why me?” But instead cover ourselves in the Word and seek Him. This is the only way we can cope in a situation like this.  The scripture reference here is talking about God’s purpose and plan for our lives, and that it will be accomplished.

Earlier in Isaiah the passage says “But those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint” (Isaiah 40:31).   We must learn to embrace the situation we are in so that we may grow spiritually and He will be glorified.

One thing we need to be sure and distinguish here is the term ‘embrace,’ and how it is used. We generally think of ‘embrace’ as being associated with a loving, positive experience. However, when we use the term in regards to embracing a difficult circumstance, it simply means that we keep our minds and hearts open to God, and make ourselves available to the opportunity of allowing Christ to draw us closer to Him as He reveals Himself within the situation itself.

There was nothing to fear in that hospital room as I visited with the family; God’s purpose for them was even now being revealed. The real miracle of healing was taking place as their hearts leaned into the God who created this child and loves him.  It has been amazing to see them begin to understand and accept that one day their son will be standing whole and will be in the arms of Jesus in Heaven.

“O God, our times are in your Hand….” Truly none of us knows the number of our days. Nor can we fully understand God’s will and purpose for our lives. But we can be sure that the God of creation is fulfilling his intentions through His love for us.

Lord, we surrender our lives into your hands. Help us to trust in your will for us because you love and care for us more than anyone else.  Teach us to embrace and not fight our battles internally, so that I may experience the true healing that comes from You. Amen!
