Turn Your Fear Into Comfort and Rest

Prayer Picture for devotionalCome to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light. Matthew 11:28-30

No one will be able to stand up against you all the days of your life. As I was with Moses, so I will be with you; I will never leave you nor forsake you….Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be terrified; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go. Joshua 1:5, 9

I love these two scriptures listed out above. With everything our family has gone through with Ragan, I have leaned on those verses often throughout the years.

For many of you, I know you may be experiencing some uneasy anticipation as you bide your time until your child’s upcoming doctor’s appointment. Others may be waiting on results of recent tests done on your child, then there are also those of you who are anxiously waiting to see if your child is going to need yet another surgery.

People cope with worry and anxiety in different ways and many of those ways are not healthy for you, or your family. I know I have struggled at times with allowing fictitious thoughts to consume me, and maybe some of you are dealing with that now as well.

How many of you repeatedly reenact scenes in your mind regarding situations, diagnoses, or medical issues that have not happened? We tell ourselves we are just preparing in case it ever does happen, but that can consume our heart and mind causing us to relive a painful event over and over again as it wraps us in a continual spiral of pain, grief, bitterness and more – over something that hasn’t even happened. When we do this to ourselves, it multiplies our suffering and causes us great physical and emotional unrest. This is not how God intended for us to live.

God has a much better solution for you and your family when you find yourself in fear of what the future might bring.

In the scriptures above, God is telling you that you do not have to multiply your suffering in this manner. There is a better way. Instead, go to Him and find rest. He will strengthen you and prepare you for whatever lies ahead. He will be with you wherever you go and will transform your fear into confidence and trust – in Him.

I pray that when these days of discouragement and fear fall upon you, that you will read these verses and turn your fear over to Him. He will never leave you and He will never forsake you, no matter what the outcome is. His love and comfort will cover you forever and always!
