“And the rain was upon the earth forty days and forty nights.” Genesis 7:12
We often want the trouble we are experiencing to end right away. The hours, the nights, the days and sometimes even years drag on and we start to lose hope that things will ever get better. Whether it’s a job dilemma or extremely ill child or maybe making sure aging parents are given proper care and support, life can sometimes be a challenge. But keep in mind the adage… “What doesn’t kill us makes us stronger”. There is a lot of truth to that.
For those who remember or have heard of the great flood Noah experienced, he was told that his family and those who came with him, along with all the animals would survive. Can you imagine what it must have been like shut up in that huge boat with all the people and animals. You know there had to have been some disagreements between the residents of the ark and the odor… oh the odor of all those animals! Forty days must have seemed like an eternity. I am sure Noah and his family began to wander after a few hours how long they might survive closed up in the ship. It couldn’t have been much fun.
However, at the end of the forty days… the waters began to subside and the ship came to rest on a mountain top. Not in the ocean, nor in a deep valley, but a mountain top! Noah released a dove and after a while… the bird came back with an olive branch in his mouth, indicating all was well. Pretty cool huh! Long story short, Noah, his family and all those animals survived to start a new life.
Take courage if you’re in the middle of your “Forty Days” of trouble, hang on tight and rest assured, things will change,
About the only way we can survive many of the challenges we experience is to ask for help… from others and also from God.
