Top New Year’s resolutions, a year in review, embracing the year to come

2014 Happy New Year clipart for BlogAs we begin this New Year, we are overflowing with humble gratitude and joy in how we have seen God’s hand move within Ragan’s HOPE.

How do we see the hand of God? Through you. Through our partners and donors who freely give of their resources, through our volunteers who selflessly serve, and through our Ragan’s HOPE families as they express their love and appreciation for the support they receive through cards, meals, prayers, hospital visits, and a variety of their other needs that are met, because of you.

We are so thankful Ragan’s HOPE is able to assist families from coast to coast, and YOU are the instrument that moves the hand of God throughout your community and beyond. It may be through a 30-second prayer you say after receiving a Prayer List update, the two minutes you spend writing a card to a family you will most likely never meet, or the monthly donation you send in that allows us the opportunity to meet the needs of others.

As you reflect over this past year, and make plans for 2014 to be an even better year for you and your family, be sure to keep Ragan’s HOPE in mind as you establish your goals. “Volunteering builds health by engaging people in activities that strengthen communities and personal health at the same time.”

Even though only 45% of the population makes New Year’s Resolutions, we hope everyone can get on board with making small changes to help lead to making a bigger impact in the lives of others.

For starters, maybe you want to jot down a few ideas on ways to help make that happen by taking a look at this list of the Top-10 most common resolutions people make (compiled by the University of Scranton – Journal of Clinical Psychology 12-2013):

  1. Lose Weight
  2. Getting Organized
  3. Spend Less, Save More
  4. Enjoy Life to the Fullest
  5. Staying Fit and Healthy
  6. Learn Something Exciting
  7. Quit Smoking
  8. Help Others in Their Dreams
  9. Fall in Love
  10. Spend More Time with Family

What is interesting about this list is that just through volunteering and getting more involved with Ragan’s HOPE, you can accomplish most of these top New Year’s Resolutions!

12 31 13 Blog Picture 5kFor example, our first annual 5k Run-n-Roll event in October could have helped with #1, 5 & 10. Since you can volunteer WITH your family at Ragan’s HOPE, instead of spending tons of money at an amusement park or a night at the movies, you can volunteer together at a Ragan’s HOPE event like our Picnics, Back-to-School activities, or a Night of Superstars Red-Carpet Event! That would cover resolution numbers 3, 4, 8 & 10!

Ragan’s HOPE also has monthly volunteer training so you’re sure to learn something new and exciting (#6), and if you ARE looking for love, well… you never know WHERE you’re going to find it!

Even if you don’t find a spouse while volunteering, there ARE a lot of children to love and pray for, and right now would be a great time to visit the Ragan’s HOPE Prayer Wall to see all the children we are currently supporting, and say a quick prayer over them for healing, comfort, and hope.

We are eager to walk alongside you – our volunteers and the families we are supporting – as together we embrace everything this New Year will bring. OH what a year it will be!

Happy New Year!
