Have you ever had one of those days when your heart felt so heavy, it was hard to breathe? If so, was there someone close to you who seemed to instinctively know when you needed a hug, an encouraging smile, or when to just sit silently by your side giving you some needed emotional support? Having a friend like that in life is simply priceless and hard to find. However, there is a way you can help provide a friend just like that to a child in need.
We have been asked by one of our partners, Our Children’s House – Baylor, to assist them with a need. Every child that comes to the hospital and undergoes surgery has a stuffed animal waiting for them in their bed when they wake up. As you can imagine, snuggling with this new friend helps bring them comfort after a surgery as they wait in the recovery room for their Mom and Dad.
The hospital is running low on these little plush friends and so Ragan’s HOPE has committed to collecting NEW stuffed animals for the month of December. If you remember, last year we provided each family in the hospital a “game night” package at Christmas. Since these stuffed animals are so greatly needed right now, we will do this drive instead of the family packages. This will not only positively impact the hospital, but also give a bit of hope to many little boys and girls!
I would like to ask each of you to assist by spreading the word to others about this drive. Collect what you can through family and friends, and if you are having a holiday get-together, ask your guests to bring a NEW stuffed animal with them to be donated for this cause. If your company allows you to take up a collection at work – please put a box by the front door, or have employees drop their gift by your desk. Making a difference in the life of a child is as simple as that.
Once you have collected the stuffed animals, contact me, and I’ll make arrangements to have them picked up. If you are coming to the Volunteer Dinner on December 15th – that would be the perfect time to bring what you have collected.
These do not need to be large animals – beanie baby size is great. I have found at times – the dollar stores have a selection. They do NOT need to be Christmas animals – these are to be used throughout the year.
Thank you for your dedication to not only the families we support but also to our partners. Projects like this make Ragan’s HOPE a valued partner in our community and we want to continue to help provide hope wherever there is a need.
